Living aboard at Acali Place Marina offers experienced boaters the opportunity to remain connected to their vessel and the marina community throughout the summer and winter seasons.
Living aboard during a Southwestern Ontario winter can be a rewarding experience, but it also requires careful planning, a well-prepared vessel and a clear understanding of the additional responsibilities that come with freezing temperatures, winter weather and reduced seasonal marina services.
Our Live-Aboard Program is intended for boaters who are comfortable with their vessel and its systems, have researched the realities of living aboard in all seasons and are prepared to take an active role in maintaining a safe, secure and winter-ready vessel throughout the winter season.
Winter Live-Aboard Planning Requirements
This application is intended as an initial step in determining whether winter live-aboard at Acali Place Marina may be a suitable option for you and your vessel. You are not expected to have every detail finalized at this stage. However, winter living aboard requires significantly more planning and preparation than seasonal boating, and approved applicants will be required to submit a more detailed Winter Live-Aboard Plan before final approval is granted.
Your final plan will need to address winter insurance coverage, safe heating and electrical use, freeze protection and winterization, potable water and wastewater management, winter access and snow/ice conditions, emergency preparedness, and arrangements for periods when you are away from the vessel. You will also need to demonstrate that your vessel is appropriately equipped for winter occupancy and that you understand and agree to the Marina’s winter live-aboard rules, safety requirements and operating limitations.
At this introductory stage, we encourage you to consider these requirements carefully when answering the questions below. Acceptance of this application does not constitute final approval for winter live-aboard occupancy. Final approval will be subject to review of your detailed plan, vessel suitability, required insurance documentation and compliance with Marina requirements.
